As an automotive journalist who strives for objectivity, but still has inherent biases as a lifelong car enthusiast, I’ve been pretty even-keeled about BMW’s recent direction as a company. The M3 and M4 grilles don’t really bother me; I think the XM is interesting – even if it’s a bit odd looking; and the new 7 Series is a world-class luxury sedan despite not being the prettiest thing. It clearly takes quite a bit to get me riled up, but the 2025 BMW X3 is the car that broke my composure. I can’t say that I’m a fan. With 68,798 units sold last year, the X3 is BMW’s second-best-selling vehicle, behind only the X5; messing it up would be a huge error.
