BMW’s latest vehicle architecture, dubbed Neue Klasse, has already spawned two new vehicles. Both the i3 sedan and iX3 crossover are all-electric vehicles, appropriate given the platform’s EV-specific design goals. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t the possibility of adding an internal combustion powertrain to the pair, turning them into extended-range EVs (EREVs) or series hybrids. Speaking at a round table during the world premiere of the i3, BMW Vice President, Brand and Product Management, Bernd Koerber admitted that the automaker would be watching the EREV market to decide if such a vehicle would be well received with customers.
