- Nissan and Infiniti plan five new body-on-frame vehicles.
- Frontier, Pathfinder, Xterra and two Infiniti models included.
- Altima reportedly sticks around through summer of 2027.
The National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) Show is underway and Nissan has reportedly used the event to reveal grand plans to increase sales to 1 million units by the end of 2027. This would be a sizable improvement as the brand only moved 873,307 units last year.
Longer term, the company is reportedly planning five models on a new body-on-frame platform. Auto News reports the Xterra will be the first to arrive in 2028 and be followed by redesigned versions of the Frontier and Pathfinder.

Infiniti is also slated to benefit as we can expect luxurious versions of the Xterra and Pathfinder. It’s unclear what the former will be called, but the latter will presumably retain the QX60 moniker.
Details are scarce, but the Xterra would give Nissan a rival to the Toyota 4Runner/Land Cruiser, while the Infiniti variant would presumably battle the Lexus GX.

Dealers who talked to the publication said the redesigned Xterra echoes its predecessor, but looks “radical” as it reportedly has a muscular grille and big tires. It’s also said to be rugged and no-frills.
In effect, it sounds like Nissan and Infiniti want to turn the clock back to the days of the old body-on-frame Xterra, Pathfinder, and QX4. This should be great news for off-road enthusiasts as it will not only enable the brands to battle Lexus and Toyota, but also Jeep and Ford.

While body-on-frame trucks and SUVs are getting a lot of attention, the company hasn’t forgotten about cars and crossovers. The redesigned Sentra was recently launched and the existing Altima will reportedly stick around until late next summer.
A new Rogue e-Power is also coming later this year, while the current Murano and Frontier will reportedly benefit from “trim level repricing and repackaging to drive competitiveness and profitability.”
