Now that the colder weather has arrived, it’s time to get serious about our ski preparations. November is the perfect time for ski moms to get into gear for the season ahead! The early prep means you can avoid last-minute scrambles for gear or surprise equipment malfunctions right before hitting the slopes. It’s also a great month to snag pre-season deals on lift tickets, tune up those skis, and stock up on the all-important layers to keep everyone cozy. Plus, a little extra prep now lets you focus on the fun once the snow really starts falling! So, grab a cup of cocoa, start making those lists, and let the anticipation build—winter is on its way, and you’ll be ready to enjoy every powder-filled minute!

Ramp Up Your Strength Workouts
You probably know by now, that I believe in prepping for the season. Fitness is NOT one of the things you want to leave to the last minute. I started the ACL Strong workout modules a few weeks ago (you can find out more about these workouts here and use our code SKIMOMS to save 20%).Â
Whether you use a program, trainer or DIY your fitness, you’ll need to add strength to your workouts. One thing I’ve learned from my trainer and other experts is the value of the kettlebell. Kettlebells are fantastic for building the strength, power, and balance needed for skiing! Here is a list of 6 kettlebell exercises that target the legs, core, and stabilizing muscles. If in doubt, I recommend looking at some YouTube videos to see proper form.Â
Get a Kettlebell set on Amazon or hunt them down on Facebook or Craigslist. (all the Amazon links are affiliate links)
- Kettlebell Goblet Squats
- Kettlebell Swings
- Kettlebell Deadlift
- Kettlebell Bulgarian Split Squats
- Russian Twists with Kettlebell
- Single-Leg Romanian Deadlift with Kettlebell
Starting with these exercises can help build the strength, stability, and endurance needed for a safe and enjoyable ski season. And remember, I’m not a trainer, I’m a ski mom who cares that you work out safely to be strong for ski season. Hire some help if you don’t know where to start.

Get Your Ski Passport
If your family is like mine, skiing is part of the strongest family memories we’ve made. With the Ski Passport, you have a little place to journal all your adventures. We use ours for stickers and notes, but you can do whatever you want to make it your own. This book contains pages for you to recap your trip and dream about your next one. When you travel to each destination, you will be able to capture that memory with a sticker & notes in your Passport to remind you of life’s best days. Create bucket lists, plan trips or start the book as an heirloom to be handed down to the next generation of shredders.Â

Contact Your Ski Buddies and Make a Plan
This week I am busy setting up my ski calendar. Sure, things will change and not everything I set in motion will happen, but starting with a plan sure helps. Part of my planning involves contacting my girlfriends to see when they can ski with me. While nothing fills my heart like a family ski day, I also love skiing with buddies. We are all so busy with kids and work, that if I leave it to the last minute, it’ll never happen.Â
That’s why NOW is the time to reach out to your friends and set up time to ski. Block out a morning each month or…better yet a whole weekend to ski with your gal pals. This investment is so important to keep the stoke alive!

Set Your Ski Goals
Each year I like to set a little goal for the season. As a writer, I try to spread the joy of winter by discovering new places to share. This year, my goal is to ski six ski areas that are new to me. Last year I was able to visit loads of new spots, like Gore Mtn (NY), Maple Ridge (NY), Catamount (NY and MA), Berkshire East (MA), Wildcat (NH), and Attitash (NH)–and those are just the alpine areas.Â
In addition to visiting new spots, my second goal is to successfully host F-O-U-R events this year. I’m a little nervous about pulling these off, but I really want to meet more ski moms in the wild!
What about you? What are your ski goals?Â
This season I’m teaming up with Kelly from The Ski Passport on “The Ski Passport Challenge.” We want all the ski moms to give themselves more time on the slopes. Kelly dreamed up a way to track the number of ski days you put in. Head here to get yours. When you use our code, SKIMOMSFUN20, you’ll save 20% AND we will send you a Ski Moms patch too.
