Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.
I think that the message of this verse is one that we all too often overlook. Many, if not most, Christians enjoy learning from the Bible. We listen to preachers on Sunday morning. We often attend Bible studies. And some will read books with a theological bent. And all of that is good. But, in itself, it is just a first step.
So what do you do with all you have learned? Is it just something to be used when playing Bible trivia? Does it enable you to answer the questions that you might be asked? Is your knowledge of the Scripture something to take pride in? Or does it have an impact on your life?
Applying the Word
Addressing that last question is what Jesus is referring to here. He had taught his disciples for several years, including specific instruction about washing each other’s feet, the topic of the extended passage. And now, he told them that they would be blessed if they applied what he had taught them. If they took that knowledge into their heads and applied it to their lives. Don’t be satisfied with just knowing God’s word. Put it into practice in your daily life. You will be blessed if you do.
