It’s very common to find vehicles using engines with four and six cylinders, with some able to use as few as three or as many as twelve cylinders in certain configurations. But in the majority of production vehicles, engines utilizing five-cylinders aren’t as common and have largely been limited to a few choice models, with the number of five-cylinder cars declining with each year. There are several reasons why some believe, especially within enthusiast circles, that five-cylinder engines deserve more time in the spotlight as a capable powertrain, but as with all automotive innovations, there are also several limitations within this particular engine’s design that hold it back.
