In the automotive world as a whole, engine-borrowing is a fairly common occurrence. The main reason behind the practice is cost, as some automakers don’t have the sort of capital that it takes to design and mass-produce an engine alongside building the actual car the mill is meant for. For example, early Koenigsegg models borrowed engines from Ford, along with older examples like the ISO Grifo, an Italian grand tourer produced in the 1970s that used both Ford and Chevrolet-bred engines.
