Remember What God Has Done – Psalm 77:10-15

Then I thought, “To this I will appeal:
the years when the Most High stretched out his right hand.
I will remember the deeds of the LORD;
yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.
I will consider all your works
and meditate on all your mighty deeds.”

Your ways, God, are holy.
What god is as great as our God?
You are the God who performs miracles;
you display your power among the peoples.
With your mighty arm you redeemed your people,
the descendants of Jacob and Joseph.

Psalm 77:10-15 NIV

In the first nine verses of this psalm, the psalmist cried out to God amid his distress. He felt abandoned by God and left all alone to face his troubles. I do not face much distress or trouble in my life. But I can appreciate his feelings of being left alone and feeling that God is distant.

And I find his solution to this to be very helpful. His choice was to remember what God has done. To remember God as the creator. To remember Him as a miracle worker who displays His power in the world. And to remember God’s activity in his own life.

When I do that, I find encouragement. I may not “feel” God much of the time. But I can remember what He has done in my life and in His creation. And I can have an assurance of His presence and care for me. Even when I don’t “feel” Him, I know He is with me.

And, as the psalmist did, I can praise Him for who He is and for all of the wonderful things He has done. And I can have confidence that He will continue to keep me safe in His arms. Feelings come and go. But He will never leave me.
