- The GT500 appears to have slammed into something side-on at high speed.
- Nearly every inch of the exterior was destroyed in the violent accident.
- The 5.2L supercharged V8 might be salvageable, but there’s no guarantee.
The previous generation Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is a beast of a machine. Or, in this case, it used to be. You see, this particular GT500 has seen better days, but now it is just a crumpled mess after being split in two.
There’s no chance it will ever see the open road again, though that hasn’t stopped an insurer from listing it for sale and, believe it or not, finding a buyer willing to take it on.
This battered Mustang GT500 was recently sold by IAAI out of its Nashville, Tennessee, branch, and just looking at photos is enough to make any car enthusiast wince. What once was a silver supercar slayer is now a twisted pile of scrap, and in all likelihood, only a handful of parts are worth saving.

While no details have been provided about the crash the GT500 was involved in, it obviously slammed into something at very high speed, splitting it in two, right through the passenger compartment.
There’s hardly anything left of the cabin, and the damage is so bad that part of the exhaust now sits on the passenger seat. We’d be astonished if someone survived.
What’s Worth Saving?
Perhaps the only part of value that might be salvageable is the 5.2-liter supercharged V8 that used to power this Shelby. Make no mistake, the front end has sustained an enormous amount of damage, but it’s in better condition than the rear.
Some of the plastic piping in the engine bay has been wrecked, and it looks like at least one of the engine mounts has also been destroyed.
However, there’s a possibility that the block itself, and perhaps the supercharger, can be saved. Other parts that might be worth saving include the brakes, although there’s a good chance the discs are cracked, meaning perhaps only the calipers have any value.
Beyond that, maybe a few Shelby badges at the front and rear could be rescued, but the rest of the Mustang’s story ends here, bound for the scrap heap where its once-mighty roar will fade into memory.
