All-New Subaru STI Concepts Teased Ahead Of 2025 Japan Mobility Show
Subaru’s announcement makes a significant impression by hinting at two STI concepts that are sure to excite both performance enthusiasts and electric vehicle fans in anticipation of the 2025 Japan Mobility Show, which commences on October 29. Subaru merges its rally legacy with cutting-edge technology, leading to the creation of the battery electric vehicle (BEV) concept known as the Performance-E STI.
Furthermore, the Japanese car manufacturer is also maintaining momentum in its internal combustion engine lineup, as the Performance-B STI concept may potentially represent the next-generation WRX STI hot hatch. Here is what we know so far, along with additional details about what Subaru will be showcasing.
Subaru STI Performance-E: Electrifying the Legend
Subaru is revving up in the performance electric vehicle class as the fully electric Performance-E STI will make its world debut. Based on the official teaser, the electric STI concept merges aerodynamic efficiency for standout performance without compromising on practicality. Subaru has not confirmed whether it will be a coupe or a hatchback, but it sports sleek and swept-back LED headlights with a sharp and sloping hood and muscular wheel arches.
The Subaru EV will get a driver layout console packed with next-generation technologies. The company is also focusing on comfort; hence, the cabin is expected to be roomy and spacious for passengers. Subaru has not shared details and specifications yet, but the Performance-E draws from the company’s experience with the Solterra electric SUV. It will come with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system.
Subaru STI Performance-B: The Hot Hatch Revival?
For those who crave turbocharged thrills, Subaru is gearing up to launch an internal combustion beast. The Performance-B concept is a five-door hatchback powered by a traditional boxer engine with AWD. The new concept is expected to be the much-awaited successor to the WRX STI hatchback, which could rival the Toyota GR Corolla hatch. The design is clearly inspired by the WRC, starting from the headlights, vented hood, wide fender extensions, a distinct grille, and a big wing for showing off its rally cred.Â
Subaru’s Upcoming Adventure Lineup
Subaru will showcase electric vehicles and rugged off-road capability. The Trailseeker EV—also called the E-Outback—will be the company’s second EV. The all-electric crossover will be equipped with AWD for outdoor enthusiasts and is expected to come standard with features like factory-fitted roof boxes, bike racks, and gear mounts.
The Forester Wilderness Prototype is a more rugged and adventure-ready version of the SUV, Subaru Forester, designed for families who love the outdoors. It features standard AWD for all-weather conditions, off-road upgrades for tackling rough terrain, and a durable, family-friendly design. Canoe racks on the roof make it easy to bring along outdoor gear, making this SUV perfect for weekend getaways, road trips, and camping adventures.Â
Then there is the Subaru Outback Wilderness Prototype, which is designed specifically for tough trails and rugged off-road conditions. It gets rugged enhancements for off-road enthusiasts and everyday explorers, like increased ground clearance, off-road tires that deliver superior traction on mud, rocks, and gravel, and bike racks perfect for seamless trail riding. Pushing it to new heights, the Outback Wilderness also comes with durable roof accessories like cargo carriers and crossbars.Â
Retro Racer
The Family Huckster is a wild, race-ready version of the iconic 1983 Subaru GL Wagon, inspired by Travis Pastrana’s viral Gymkhana stunts. With retro performance, extreme aerodynamics, and high-horsepower upgrades, this concept car captures the playful side of Subaru’s performance-driven adventurous spirit beyond its usual STI lineup.
