Like Mazda’s CX-5, the latest RAV4 has a completely new user interface
The soon-to-arrive 2026 Toyota RAV4 is significant for many reasons. Of course, any new RAV4 generation is a big deal, given the nameplate’s popularity. But this one will also debut the crossover’s first hybrid-only powertrain lineup, following in the footsteps of the latest Camry. Toyota has been producing hybrid RAV4s for years, though, so this is familiar territory. What’s less familiar for the brand is the big leap the new RAV4’s in-cabin tech has taken.
The 2026 RAV4 will debut the new Toyota Audio Multimedia experience from the Japanese marque. This system will integrate new connectivity features and an intuitive interface, and it’ll gradually find its way into other models across the Toyota range. While the new RAV4 won’t adopt touchscreen controls to the extent of the new Mazda CX-5, it’s still a notable shift in the user interface, so here’s everything you need to know.

A Design Inspired By Customer and Dealer Feedback
Toyota
A collaboration between the Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) R&D and Connected Technologies team and Toyota Connected North America (TCNA), the new multimedia system was created in line with feedback received from dealers and customers.
“The teams behind our new Toyota Audio Multimedia system have worked together to build something we are proud to bring to the RAV4 this year,” said Brian Inouye, chief engineer at Toyota Motor North America. “The enhancements we’ve made are driven by both function and performance at their core, and we are excited for our customers to enjoy an in-cabin experience like never before.”
To best utilize its full functionality, the new multimedia system is the first to integrate 5G network connectivity through AT&T into Toyota vehicles. Speeds are not only improved, but there’s a wider reception area, too, thanks to the large AT&T network. The system also integrates Arene, Toyota’s first step toward fully software-defined models.

2026 Toyota RAV4 Infotainment
Base RAV4s will get a 10.5-inch touchscreen interface, while upper trims receive a 12.9-inch unit. Regardless of the screen size, response times are better and the smartphone-like interface has new icons.
Users can configure the home screen as they prefer, with widgets for functions like drive mode, navigation, or audio. On the upper right portion of the screen, a permanently accessible Quick Control Menu can be used to quickly get to frequently used functions like Bluetooth connectivity or screen brightness. As expected, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard.

Improved Voice Assistant and Navigation, Plus New Drive Recorder
2026 Toyota RAV4 Infotainment
Toyota has developed a new voice assistant with faster responses than before, activated via a simple prompt like “Hey Toyota”. Since a connection to the cloud is no longer required for the voice assistant, it takes less time for the system to react. Changing the volume or climate control can be easily done via voice.
Native navigation is enhanced, displayed full-screen in the center display or via the digital gauge cluster. It includes turn-by-turn directions, but an active Drive Connect trial or subscription is needed.
A new drive recorder is standard and utilizes the vehicle’s external cameras to record and save clips. These clips can be played back on the head unit or downloaded via a USB flash drive, and the sensitivity of triggering events is adjustable.
Other key functions found within the Toyota Audio Multimedia system include:
- EV Domain. This is specifically for the RAV4 plug-in hybrid, and allows drivers to easily control and maintain the crossover’s level of charge via the head unit. The EV Domain integrates with the Toyota app, too.
- Remote Connect. New vehicle functions can now be controlled remotely via the app, such as opening the trunk or turning on the headlights.
- SiriusXM with 360L. This available addition allows users to stream content, and uses satellite connectivity.
- Spotify. If you have an existing Spotify account, you can link it to the Toyota Audio Multimedia system for easy access to favorite playlists, podcasts, or audiobooks.
Not all of these functions are standard, but their availability makes the new RAV4 much more connected than previous versions.
Final Thoughts
Toyota
This is the most advanced RAV4 ever. Typically bought more for its solid mechanicals and reliability reputation than for the latest tech, the 2026 Toyota RAV4 means you don’t have to choose. The new infotainment system has a much broader range of features that matter to tech-savvy buyers.
Crucially, Toyota hasn’t placed everything in the touchscreen. There are still physical controls for the volume knob, driving modes, and climate control temperature. Hopefully, usability is as good as Toyota suggests.
