The Pikes Peak Hill Climb has been around since 1916, when local hotel owner Spencer Penrose devised a clever marketing plan to promote his new establishment, running a race up the mountain. Today the 12.4-mile Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, with its 156 corners, 5,000-foot climb and massive drop-offs, is the greatest motorsport event of its kind in the world.
