Over the course of automotive history, there have been quite a few engines that have gained fame for a multitude of reasons. Most of those reasons are good, like in the Buick 3800 V6‘s case, as that particular mill was extremely well-built, reliable, and easy to maintain. In fact, so long-lived was it that it was still under the hood of the 2009 Buick LaCrosse, despite its original design dating back to the ’60s. Others, such as the Cadillac 8-6-4 V8, gained infamy due to being unreliable and insufficiently developed for the mass market before being pressed into service.
