There’s no denying the third-generation MR2 was a bit of an odd offering. The MR2 name had been around since the early 80s, and for the first two generations, it combined a superb driving experience with potent engines and attractive looks. By the end of the Mark II MR2’s life, it was pushing out 200 horsepower from its 3S-GTE engine and sported looks that rivaled Ferrari. Any following generation had big shoes to fill, and the Mark III MR2 was a drastic change of course.
