
There’s no doubt that Tesla played a massive role in EV adoption. Its first model, the Roadster, nearly bankrupted the company, but when the Model S hit the streets, it quickly proved that the electric vehicle wasn’t just a viable alternative, but much better in many ways. Tesla effectively toppled the first domino, and legacy automakers had to respond. Back in 2012, the Model S had the playing field to itself, but now there are over 100 different EVs available.
