- Only 300 Black Ghost editions were made as a tribute to Godfrey Qualls.
- A near-new example just sold for $128,000 with only 26 miles recorded.
- Despite cooler prices, this Challenger fetched a price close to Demon 170s.
Among all the ‘Last Call’ versions of the Dodge Challenger that were built, it appears the limited-run Black Ghost is the one to have. Late last week, one sold for $128,000, which happens to be about what low-mileage Demon 170s are fetching these days, despite offering more performance than this particular Hellcat.
In fact, over the weekend, we reported on a 136-mile Demon 170 that sold for nearly $7,000 below MSRP, landing at the exact same price as this lower-spec Black Ghost.

The key appeal of the Black Ghost is its rarity. Just 300 examples of this very special Hellcat Redeye Widebody Jailbreak were built. The car pays tribute to the 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T SE that was owned by Godfrey Qualls, who developed a reputation for street racing it along Woodward Avenue in the 1970s.
This particular Black Ghost had an original price tag of $100,865 and traded hands with just 26 miles (42 km) under its belt. The hammer price of $128,000 is a very good result, particularly since the Challenger market has generally cooled over the last year or so.
In late 2023 and early 2024, some Demon 170s were selling for over $200,000, but now prices have settled nearer the $130,000 mark, roughly the same as this Black Ghost. Prices of Black Ghosts have also fallen from former highs. In July 2024, one sold for $161,500 while in September 2023, another sold for $190,000 with 13 miles on the clock.

As a Challenger Hellcat Redeye Jailbreak model, this Black Ghost’s 6.2-liter supercharged V8 delivers an almighty 807 hp and 707 lb-ft (958 Nm) of torque. Those are some serious figures, but they can’t match the Demon 170, which pumps out 900 hp and 810 lb-ft (1,098 Nm) with regular E10 fuel, or 1,025 hp and 945 lb-ft (1,281 Nm) when running E85.
All Black Ghosts share the same Pitch Black paint, an alligator-skin vinyl roof graphic, hood pins, a chrome fuel door, and a white rear stripe that runs across the trunk lid. It’s a distinctive package that balances menace with nostalgia, and evidently, that combination still resonates with plenty of buyers.
