Late last week, a report filtered through that Lotus might start offering its flagship Emira with a more powerful V8 in a bid to curry favor with US customers and, potentially, take on the Porsche 911 GT3 nose-to-aluminum nose. Naturally, that got us thinking about the last V8-powered Lotus – the epochal Esprit – and its similarly celebrated ‘Wet Nellie’ and Essex Turbo spin-offs. All of which cost us most of our Friday evening.
