If you thought hatchbacks were just affordable commuter cars, think again. Meet Toyota’s GR Yaris “Aero Performance Package” – straight from the Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) stable – that’s ready to shake up the performance car world.
The enhanced GR Yaris is currently on display at Midland Square in Nagoya, Japan, and will hit Toyota dealerships across Japan starting October 1, 2025. While initially exclusive to Japan, the model may expand to European markets by year’s end. With its new aerodynamic upgrades, Toyota has transformed the humble Yaris into something that would make sports car owners take notice.
Track-Bred Performance Meets Street Legal

The GR Yaris is developed by Toyota’s racing division with input from professional drivers to maximize aerodynamics and unleash the hatchback’s track potential. Available in RZ high-performance and RC trims, the GR Yaris receives six strategic upgrades that transform it into a formidable pocket rocket.

The most striking addition is a ducted aluminum hood borrowed directly from the GRMN Yaris competing in the Japanese Rally Championship. This functional piece efficiently vents engine heat while delivering an unmistakably aggressive appearance. The new front lip spoiler enhances the GR Yaris’ wild character by increasing downforce for improved grip and balance.

Fender ducts strategically release air trapped in the front wheel wells, maintaining precise steering feel during hard braking and boosting stability through corners. Taking inspiration from race cars, the GR Yaris adds a fuel tank undercover that provides extra protection while streamlining airflow beneath the vehicle, reducing turbulence and increasing high-speed stability.

The adjustable rear wing dominates the silhouette and provides crucial downforce during aggressive cornering. Meanwhile, rear bumper ducts combat aerodynamic drag, helping the hatchback slice through air more efficiently.
300-HP Thrills Under $40K

The GR Yaris packs serious punch with its 1.6-liter three-cylinder turbocharged engine producing 300 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. Both trims feature all-wheel drive and offer either a 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic transmission.
Toyota has revealed Japanese pricing ahead of the October 1 launch. The RC starts at ¥4,055,000 ($27,500) for the manual, with the automatic at ¥4,405,000 ($29,900). The range-topping RZ runs from ¥5,475,000 ($37,000) to ¥5,825,000 ($39,500).
