Most cars follow a typical life-cycle. Automakers plan out a six or seven-year generation. There’s typically a substantial mid-cycle refresh about halfway through the generation. Tesla has challenged that convention. The brand has offered significant updates over the years, but its vehicles have not shifted platforms. Hardware-wise, the current Tesla Model S and Tesla Model X have been in production for more than a decade. According to a report, Toyota, which has always been at the forefront of improving production efficiency, wants to emulate Tesla’s longer model runs.
