When the US put a massive 100% tariff on EVs from China in 2024, the reason given was “unfair trade practices.” The US Trade Representative said that manufacturers in the country were “flooding global markets with artificially low-priced exports.” There were accusations that those exports were at least in part due to the country’s leaders pushing to boost production to unsustainable levels.
