House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) held his daily press conference amid the government shutdown, now into its third week.
Senate GOP leaders have scheduled a vote Thursday on a $852 billion Pentagon bill defense vote to put pressure on Democrats over the shutdown.
If it passes, Johnson suggested Wednesday that the House will not return to the Capitol to consider the legislation unless Senate Democrats first agree to reopen the government.
“My suspicion is the Democrats are going to play their same political games and stop that cold,” Johnson said. “I hope I’m surprised by that.”
