President Trump is set to hold a press conference with FBI Director Kash Patel on Wednesday afternoon.
They will discuss the administration’s efforts to crack down on crime amid a surge in federal law enforcement in places like Memphis, Tenn.; and Chicago, according to a White House official.
It comes a day after Trump posthumously awarded the Medal of Freedom to Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated last month in Utah, spurring a high-profile manhunt led by the FBI.
The FBI also has been at the center of Democratic accusations of the politicization of the Justice Department during Trump’s second term.
Patel two weeks ago denied any wrongdoing by the bureau in bringing charges against one of his predecessors, James Comey.
Federal prosecutors reportedly met over the weekend to finalize a potential indictment of John Bolton, who was Trump’s national security adviser in his first term and has turned into a vocal critic.
Watch a live stream of the press conference slated to begin at 3 p.m. EDT.
