The motoring world is full of quirky vehicles that, according to the natural order of things, shouldn’t exist. Take the 2018 Audi R8 RWS, for example — a naturally aspirated, mid-engined, rear-wheel-drive car from a manufacturer that built its entire legacy on front-engined, turbocharged, all-wheel-drive sedans. The R8 RWS went into production at the same time that BMW was introducing its first all-wheel-drive M5, the F90. By now, BMW fans were getting used to the idea of turbocharging instead of the classic high-revving naturally aspirated M motors of the past, but this sixth-gen M5 also marked the end of a manual transmission option.
