With the addition of a new Trail package, Ford is broadening the 2027 Mustang Mach-E for those inclined to go off the beaten path. The 2027 Ford Mustang Mach-E Trail is an electric SUV with a raised suspension, all-weather tires and some extra utility to see it through gravel and dirt on a weekend outing.

This new offering is found only on the Mustang Mach-E Select eAWD. It is an adventure-minded option for buyers who do not wish to move up to the more performance-driven Mustang Mach-E Rally. Where the Rally is built for loose-surface driving, the Trail caters to the driver who may leave the pavement now and then for a hike or to put in at a campsite.
Ford has made the Mustang Mach-E Trail more capable with a specially tuned suspension featuring revised passive struts and springs front and rear. That translates to 10 millimeters more ride height up front and 15 at the back over the standard Select and Premium versions. Some of its parts come from the Rally, to wit the steering rack, 19-inch Dark Carbonized Gray wheels and Michelin CrossClimate 2 tires. The latter are all-weather affairs meant to put down better traction on everything from wet roads to snow and dirt.

Ford says the extra ground clearance and traction should see the Trail through sandy patches and two-track dirt without trouble. But the idea is not to make a hardcore off-roader of the Mustang Mach-E. It is a sensible compromise for a buyer wanting some more ability from an electric crossover while retaining the comfort for daily use.
The changes to the exterior are understated. A Carbon Black lower fascia on the front sets the Trail apart and the 19-inch wheels lend a bit of ruggedness. Inside there is a Trail logo on the center armrest.

Then there are the conveniences for being outdoors. A 400-watt Pro Power Onboard system comes as standard and puts electrical outlets in the cargo space and at the back of the console for things like a portable fan, an electric pump for a paddleboard or campsite lights. For roof transport of a kayak or bicycle, one can order a Thule clamp-on crossbar kit from Ford’s accessories. An Interior Protection Package is also available to put in some all-weather floor mats and a cargo protector.

Ford has an incentive in place for the Trail as well. In addition to the 22,000 Ford Rewards points any Mustang Mach-E customer gets, Trail owners will be given another 100,000 to put toward eligible merchandise, parts or subscriptions.
2027 Ford Mustang Mach-E Gets More Range and a Lower Starting Price
The Trail package is just one of the updates Ford has in store for the 2027 Mustang Mach-E. The most notable change is the standard extended-range battery found on all trim levels. In the past, a larger battery was only to be had by way of an upgrade to certain configurations. That is no longer the case for 2027: the Mustang Mach-E Select and Premium are now fitted with an 88-kWh usable battery as standard, the GT and Rally get a 91-kWh unit.
Ford has not put out new EPA driving range figures, but making the bigger battery standard ought to add value to the entry-level models in the eyes of those who put a premium on range. And yet Ford has been able to put the entry price of the Mustang Mach-E down. The 2027 Mustang Mach-E Select RWD is $39,955 before destination and delivery, putting the extended-range version under $40,000. Some of that saving is due to a new secondary drive unit for the front motor on the all-wheel-drive versions. According to Ford, it performs as well as the old design at less cost to manufacture.
There is a revised exterior color scheme for 2027 as well. Desert Sand and Shadow Black are included; one can have Adriatic Blue Metallic, Eruption Green Metallic, Glacier Gray Metallic, Race Red, Star White Metallic Tri-coat or Velocity Blue Metallic for an extra charge.
Ford is rolling out its BlueCruise 1.5 hands-free highway system more widely on the 2027 Mustang Mach-E. It is an option on the Select and Premium via their tech packages and comes as part of the equipment on the GT and Rally. Those so equipped get a year and 90 days of service, though there is also a one-time buy. On the Trail model, which is Select-based, the buyer has to order the hardware for BlueCruise up front; it is not something that can be put on after the car is delivered.
The 400-watt Pro Power Onboard is standard on the Trail but can be had on the Premium and GT, the Rally included. All 2027 Mustang Mach-Es will have the Ford Connectivity and Security Packages, each with a year of service and the option of a one-time purchase.
