Toyota has announced updates and pricing for the 2027 Prius and Prius Plug-in Hybrid (the latter formerly called Prius Prime), and both are relatively minor. Base pricing for both versions of the Prius has increased by $205, but there’s a new black color called Inked, and the PHEV now gets dual-zone climate control as standard for 2027, making the cabin slightly more upscale and comfortable. The 2026 Prius started at $28,550, and the 2026 Prius Plug-in Hybrid had a base MSRP of $33,775, both excluding a destination charge of $1,295. For 2027, the Prius costs $28,755, and the Prius PHEV is $33,980, with no change to the destination charge.
2027 Toyota Prius Retains 2026 Powertrains
The 2027 Toyota Prius is still powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder hybrid driving the front axle through an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission, or e-CVT. AWD is also available, and it adds two horsepower to the FWD model’s 194-hp peak combined figure. According to the EPA, this will achieve efficiency figures as high as 57/56/57 mpg on the city/highway/combined cycles. The Prius PHEV has the same gas engine paired with two motor generators and a planetary-type CVT, and this powertrain only ever feeds the front axle with 220 net-combined hp. 0-60 mph takes around 6.6 seconds, and the 13.6-kWh lithium-ion battery delivers up to 44 miles of all-electric driving range on the base SE and up to 39 miles on the XSE, Nightshade, and XSE Premium trims. The SE’s EPA rating is 53/51/52 mpg, while the others are only slightly worse at 50/47/48 mpg.

With the addition of Inked paint, available on all trims as a no-cost option, the color palette expands to six choices: Cutting Edge, Guardian Gray, Reservoir Blue, Karashi (a Nightshade-exclusive yellow), Supersonic Red, and Wind Chill Pearl. The latter two choices are premium options and will add $475 to the bill.
2027 Toyota Prius Arrives In The Summer, 2026 Still Available
The Toyota configurator already has the 2027 Prius and Prius PHEV listed and ready to build, but they’ll only begin reaching dealers at some unspecified point later in the summer. In the meantime, the 2026 Prius and Prius PHEV remain available to order, and if you don’t care about the new paint option and the addition of dual-zone climate control to the PHEV, you have two options. Either buy a 2026 model now and save $205, or wait until the 2027 model arrives at dealers – discounts on old inventory and attractive lease deals are likely to be frequent.
