Between the late 1990s and early 2000s, Volkswagen was thoroughly invested in producing some models that were straight out of left field. You don’t have to think long to come up with names like the Phaeton, a luxury car that was built to be on par with a Bentley, but wears a VW badge. There was also the Volkswagen Passat W8, and while the “Passat” namesake is nothing new, the “W8” definitely was.
