The R8 was never meant to be a moneymaker for Audi. It was more of a passion project that became a reality, thanks to a fair bit of help from Lamborghini. The car proved successful enough to merit two generations, and the best part was that it drove as well as it looked.
It wasn’t just all show and no go for the R8. The Lamborghini DNA shone through in its chassis dynamics, and, ironically, one of the compliments it got was that it didn’t drive like an Audi. The addition of the V10 further elevated the mid-engined sports car into true supercar territory, further cementing its legacy.

For Those Who Want More
As it is, the R8 is a great car, but there are those who want more out of it. Normally, one would mod the living daylights out of the engine, and seeing over 1,000 hp from either the V8 or V10 is very much possible. For those who’d like a wilder look, there are a whole lot of body kits out there available.
But then there are those who go beyond the extremes. One such person in China decided the R8 still wasn’t enough, so he set out to turn it into a Bugatti Chiron clone, aiming to make it a 1:1 replica of the French hypercar.

Cutting Required
For this little project, the donor was a first-generation R8, more specifically, the V10 version. It didn’t appear stock to begin with, already sporting a kit before the drastic surgery. Taking off the panels was the easy part. However, to be a true Chiron replica, something had to be done about the top.
With that, the electric saws came out to make it happen. For R8 fans out there with a morbid curiosity or simply have an appetite for destruction, you can check out the reel below. If not, it’s best to look away.
“You do You”
Inevitably, there were interesting comments about the whole project. It ranges from “I love it” and “that’s insane,” to “ruined” and “why would any sane person destroy a beautiful R8.” Admittedly, we do have some questions about structural integrity after the roof met its fate with a sawzall.
Either way, this is a case of you do you and the comments section be damned. We’ll be honest and say we’re curious about what the final product will look like, though.
