BMW has already produced its 50,000th iX3 electric SUV at its new plant in Debrecen, Hungary, just nine months after the start of series production and four months after receiving the 50,000th customer order.
This marks the fastest ramp-up of a new BMW Group plant in history, which speaks volumes about the high demand for the brand’s new compact luxury electric SUV. The facility builds exclusively iX3 EVs based on the Neue Klasse modular architecture.

“The 50,000th BMW iX3 underscores the capabilities of our plant in Debrecen: Never before have we built so many vehicles so quickly at a new plant. This milestone is the result of an outstanding team effort,” said Raymond Wittmann, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, responsible for Production.
BMW was able to achieve this rapid ramp-up thanks to the introduction of a second shift from February 2026, which was well ahead of schedule. The second shift was added due to the high demand the 2027 BMW iX3 has seen since series production began in October 2025.

Mind you, customer demand doesn’t seem to be relenting as BMW says it’s on track to soon reach a milestone of 100,000 incoming orders.
Built from scratch in eastern Hungary after an investment of over $2.3 billion, the Debrecen plant plays a key role in the further scaling of the Neue Klasse platform across BMW Group’s production network.

As the home of the first series-produced Neue Klasse model, Plant Debrecen is helping shape the future of the BMW Group’s global production network,” noted Hans-Peter Kemser, President and CEO of BMW Group Plant Debrecen.
As the first factory globally to roll out Neue Klasse models, BMW Group Plant Debrecen has a pioneering role, providing other plants with valuable insights for the upcoming launches, such as the BMW i3 sedan production debut scheduled for August 2026 at the BMW Group Plant Munich.
By the end of 2027, BMW Group plans to launch 40 new or updated models that will incorporate technologies and the design language of the Neue Klasse, and all of the company’s plants will benefit from the lessons learned at the Debrecen plant’s ramp-up.
More specifically, insights from one plant flow directly into the global network and support the ramp-up of further models thanks to digital tools and a shared database, BMW Group said in a statement. This enables the identification and avoidance of potential quality deviations at an early stage, preventing it from occurring at another location.
