Twenty-five years is an awfully long time. Back in 2001, Lexus had only just replaced the LS400, the E46 M3 was only just hitting showroom floors, and gas was $1.50 a gallon. So, surely by now, Mercedes’ 25-year-old R230-generation SL should be something of a relic, best reserved for nostalgic Sunday drives, and slow, carnauba-wax-scented afternoons in the garage?
