Subaru Forester Goes Wilder for 2027, but Most Prices Barely Move

Subaru’s Bread and Butter

The Subaru Forester is still the brand’s hot-selling model in the US. One reason for that success is the wide range of trims, giving shoppers plenty of options whether they’re after value, comfort, or something a little more adventurous.

For 2027, Subaru isn’t messing with that formula. Most Forester models keep their 2026 price tags, even as Subaru keeps piling on standard features. The base Forester still kicks off at $29,995, and the entry-level Forester Hybrid holds steady at $34,730. No price hikes, too, for the Premium, Premium Hybrid, Sport Hybrid, Limited Hybrid, and Touring Hybrid.

There are two exceptions. The gas-powered Forester Wilderness jumps from $36,995 to $39,495, and the Forester Limited creeps up from $35,995 to $37,595. But before you cry foul, Subaru insists these aren’t just price bumps. Both trims now come loaded with gear that used to cost extra, so you’re actually getting more for your money.

Also, there’s a small $25 increase in destination and handling fees, applied across the range.

The Wilderness Goes Hybrid

The biggest addition to the lineup is the all-new 2027 Forester Wilderness Hybrid. It’s the first time Subaru’s rugged Wilderness treatment meets the brand’s next-gen hybrid powertrain. Starting at $40,495, it sits just above the gas-only Wilderness in the lineup.

Just like the gas version, the Wilderness Hybrid packs 9.3 inches of ground clearance, Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, dual-mode X-MODE, chunky Yokohama Geolandar all-terrains, and beefed-up underbody armor. The twist? Under the hood, Subaru’s series-parallel hybrid setup teams a purpose-built 2.5-liter BOXER engine with electric motors and a lithium-ion battery, good for a combined 194 horsepower.

Subaru claims the new hybrid Wilderness sips less fuel but doesn’t sacrifice the go-anywhere grit that’s made the Wilderness badge a hit with buyers who want real-deal trail chops.

What Else Is New?

But wait, there’s more. Subaru has shuffled the Forester deck for 2027. The gas-only Sport and Touring trims are gone, leaving just four gasoline models: Base, Premium, Wilderness, and Limited. Meanwhile, the hybrid side grows to five trims, thanks to the new Wilderness Hybrid joining Premium Hybrid, Sport Hybrid, Limited Hybrid, and Touring Hybrid.

As mentioned, that Wilderness price bump comes with perks. Now you get a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, an 11.6-inch multimedia system with navigation, Harman Kardon audio, and a power rear gate, all standard. Subaru also throws in a heated steering wheel and heated rear seats for 2027.

The Limited trim gets in on the action too, picking up a power rear gate, heated steering wheel, and rain-sensing wipers that used to be extra.

Every 2027 Forester still comes standard with Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, EyeSight driver-assist tech, and at least 8.7 inches of ground clearance. Expect the refreshed Forester lineup to hit Subaru dealers across the US later this fall.
