TGI Fridays has continued to see its physical U.S. store footprint shrink since it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in late 2024.
According to the casual dining chain’s latest franchise disclosure document (FDD), which was amended earlier this month, the company operated 80 U.S. restaurants at the end of fiscal year 2025, a net loss of 39 locations compared with the 119 restaurants it operated at the start of the year.
However, the amended document also shows that at least nine additional stores have closed this year so far, bringing TGI Fridays’ U.S. store count down to 71.Â
Which Fridays stores have closed in 2026?
The document’s amended details reveal that five TGI Fridays franchisees have closed nine restaurants so far this year. Those restaurants were located in seven states:
- Florida: 2
- Georgia: 1
- Indiana: 1
- Massachusetts: 2
- North Carolina: 1
- Ohio: 1
- Pennsylvania: 1
TGI Fridays went from 39 to zero company-owned locations in 2025
All of Fridays’ store locations are now franchise-owned. According to the FDD, 11 company-owned locations closed last year. Here’s how many locations shuttered, by state:
- Maryland: 3
- Nevada: 4
- New York: 3
- Tennessee: 1
Additionally, as a result of the bankruptcy proceedings, 28 company-owned locations were sold to franchisees. Here’s how many restaurants were sold to franchisees, by state:

What’s next for the casual dining chain?
TGI Fridays is now owned by Sugarloaf Hospitality and led by CEO Ray Blanchette. Its latest FDD outlined zero projected franchised openings and zero company-owned openings for 2026.
In July, Fast Company reported on TGI Fridays store closures. At that time, a company spokesperson confirmed that there were 76 U.S. locations in operation.
Based on the information presented in the amended disclosure document, five additional stores have closed since then.
