In the 1930s, Ruth Wakefield, founder and operator of the Toll House Inn, created a cookie using Nestle’s semi-sweet chocolate bar. The recipe was so popular in Wakefield’s 1938 cookbook that Nestle noticed the increase in sales. The result was the ready-made Nestle Toll House chocolate chip cookie going on sale to the public. Before the chocolate cookie became an American staple, though, the Chevrolet Suburban was already on sale. And it’s still available today, just like the Nestle Toll House chocolate chip cookie.
