House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer and other House Republicans will speak with reporters Tuesday morning as the government shutdown stretches into its 35th day.
The lapse in funding, which is poised to become the longest in U.S. history, has been centered on demands for an extension to expiring Affordable Care Act subsidies that have kept insurance costs relatively low for low-income Americans.
Tuesday’s press conference comes after a quartet of bipartisan lawmakers on Monday proposed a framework to temporarily extend the tax credits, which would include a sunset period and an income cap for high earners. Johnson has also floated extending the deadline on the continuing resolution past the Nov. 21 date.
The event is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. EDT.
