The Public Buildings Reform Board has identified several federal properties in the Greater Washington area for potential sale or redevelopment as part of ongoing efforts to shed millions of square feet of underutilized office space nationwide.
Specific properties eyed for disposition in the D.C. region include Columbia Plaza, a 713,411-square-foot office building located at 2401 E St. NW in Foggy Bottom. The building is on a short list of federal properties that have drawn immediate interest, reported the Washington Business Journal.
Another identified site is Franconia Warehouse Building B, a 308,483-square-foot warehouse located in Springfield, Virginia. The building is part of a large GSA-owned complex in Fairfax County that also includes a CIA outpost.
The National Weather Service Sterling Field Support Center at 43741 Weather Service Road in Loudoun County near Dulles International Airport is also on the list of properties. The 154-acre site, which is owned by the Department of Commerce, is identified as a surplus land sale.
