When Audi revealed the S5 Coupe at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show, it was a bold return to the premium compact coupe for the four-ringed German automaker. For the first time since the 1980s, Audi dabbled in the coupe space, and the car had all the makings to be the next big thing for the brand from Ingolstadt. Based on the 8T generation of the A5, the S5 would arrive as a rival to the BMW 3 Series Coupe and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe. But if anything, the S5 was more than just a stylish big brother to the A5 range and gatekeeper to the hot-rod RS 5 (2010-2012) – it was a statement.
