Second Home
Buick’s relevance is supposed to be centered in its home country of America. However, it has found a second home in China, where the brand enjoys a strong reputation and solid sales. Buick’s branding in China has helped it build a dedicated following and earn a luxury-brand status in the Chinese market.
Capitalizing on the luxury appeal, Buick is releasing a new flagship luxury van (or MPV as they call it). This van isn’t your typical upbadge model; it’s a special edition that’ll be sold in very limited quantities.

Century Back Limited Edition
Buick launched the Century Black Gold Limited Edition, which comes in 2 variants: a 4-seater layout priced at $82,000 (converted) and a 7-seater layout which costs a massive $105,000 (converted). Even more interesting is how exclusive this luxury vehicle is: the 4-seater will have only 40 units, while the 7-seater gets just 10 units, for a total of 50 units across both configurations.
As its name suggests, Black Gold blends black and gold. The roof and the window frame are dressed in gold; the rest of the body is painted in black. The Century Black Gold is based on the Shiji (Century) van and retains the same overall design. Buick took inspiration from the golden sunrise of the mountains for the two-tone color scheme.
To achieve the effect of a golden sunrise, Buick applied 12 coats of paint, automatically sprayed by 112 dedicated robots, then manually wrapped some other exterior details. Even the paint is special: the black tone uses a high-concentration black paste layered with millions of metallic particles, and the gold is a blend of 4 color pigments with a subtle purple pearlescent finish that alludes to the auspiciousness of purple.
The interior is finished in amber porcelain white, said to draw inspiration from the painting “Rainy Landscape.” In fact, the interior features intricate embroidery that the automaker claims totals 136,000 stitches. Complementing the amber white are silver-lined wood trims and specially designed wool carpets. Other notable features include Nappa leather-lined seats and the first-ever rear-seat-priority Bose Executive Edition sound system.

Special Gifts
As if the van itself wasn’t enough, buyers of 1 of the 50 units get special gifts from Buick. The first is the Amanyangyun Black Gold Fragrance, an exclusive in-cabin fragrance; you can also get a $2,000 trade-in subsidy (converted) or a 50% down payment with a 12-month low-interest payment plan. Next is a data plan for the integrated 2nd-row screen: Buick will give 4-seater buyers 5 years of 1,000 GB of WiFi data for free; 7-seater customers get 3 years of 750 GB of free data.
