In the grand scheme of automotive technology, turbocharging is a relatively new invention in the industry’s history. The first brand to pioneer mass-market production of a turbocharged model was Oldsmobile, with the introduction of the Jetfire in 1962. It wasn’t until 1973 that BMW released another turbo model, the 2002 Turbo, to continue the forced-induction legacy. Then, the most famous early vehicle to feature the tech came about in 1974, that model being the Porsche 911 Turbo.
