China Gets a Different Kind of Camry
China has a habit of getting its own spin on familiar cars – think electrified Ford Bronco or a Nissan Pathfinder that’s suddenly gone upmarket.
But when it comes to the Toyota Camry, the US and China usually get the same flavor – until you peek inside. The 2027 Camry heading to Chinese showrooms keeps its tried-and-true exterior, but the cabin gets a full-blown tech makeover.
The Screen Is Only the Start
The exterior remains largely unchanged. However, the biggest update is found inside – a massive 15.6-inch touchscreen slapped right in the middle of the dash, standard on every trim and powered by Qualcomm’s 8155 chip. Suddenly, the Camry’s infotainment feels like it belongs in 2027, not 2017.
Toyota didn’t stop at the screen. The cabin gets more soft-touch materials, moodier ambient lighting, and even some crystal-like bling around the shifter. Up top, there’s a suede headliner for that extra touch of class.
Step up to the higher trims, and the front seats can heat, cool, and even massage. There’s a 14-speaker JBL sound system, a panoramic sunroof, and in the back, passengers get their own heated and cooled seats, power-adjustable backrests, and tablet charging ports.
China’s Ongoing Screen Experiment
This giant screen isn’t just a Camry thing – it’s part of a bigger trend in China. Automakers have figured out that slapping a huge display inside is the quickest way to make an old car feel brand new. China’s carmakers are all-in on big screens, fast processors, and digital everything. However, regulators have started to wonder if maybe we need a few more buttons and knobs after all.
For the Camry, the familiar sedan remains underneath, but the cabin gets the sort of technology upgrade that can make an otherwise conventional facelift feel considerably newer. In China, at least, that may be what buyers are looking for.
