The Resurrection of a Cinematic Icon
The legendary Eleanor Mustang remains one of the most famous cars in cinema history. Inspired by the sleek lines of a 1967 Shelby GT500, this vehicle captured the hearts of car enthusiasts globally. The car became an instant cultural phenomenon after its starring role in the hit movie Gone in 60 Seconds.
For decades, strict copyright restrictions legally blocked custom builders from using the Eleanor name or replicating the project. Now, a shift in the legal landscape allows officially certified builds to safely hit the market. Collectors finally have the rare opportunity to bid on an authentic, licensed example at public auction.

A Modernized Widebody Masterpiece
Barrett-Jackson is set to auction a spectacular 1967 Ford Mustang Eleanor Widebody Limited Edition. Listed as Lot 727, this car is number five of only sixty planned production units and is built from a real factory fastback. The handcrafted all-metal body is progressively widened by seven inches from the nose to the tail. It is finished in Pepper Gray Metallic paint with black Le Mans stripes, all under a heavy clearcoat.
Under the hood lies a Roush supercharged 5.0-liter Coyote V8 engine linked to a TKX five-speed manual transmission. The cockpit features a cinematic Go-Baby-Go shifter alongside a movie-correct nitrous oxide bottle. This restomod replaces the Baer six-piston brakes and handling with an all-new, modern suspension system. It will cross the block at No Reserve during the inaugural Columbus auction running June 25 through 27 at the Ohio Expo Center.

The Enduring Mystique of the Eleanor Mustang
While standard vintage Ford Mustangs are inherently iconic, the Eleanor design occupies an entirely different tier of automotive fame. For nearly a quarter of a century, restricted access kept this specific styling package out of reach for the general public. This scarcity transformed the silver-screen hero into an unattainable dream that lingered heavily in our collective psyche.
The current proliferation of high-end Eleanor builds has allowed the legendary car to evolve. Modern engineering updates have made these cars faster and more reliable than anything built in the late sixties. Even as more examples hit the road, the Eleanor name retains its mystique and continues to captivate car lovers everywhere.
