Shooting Brake
The shooting brake design is one of the most iconic classic looks that was once a desirable form factor for a car. It blended the sporty profile of a two-door coupe with the extended sloping rear cargo look of a station wagon. Only a few cars throughout history can claim to be purpose-built shooting brakes, with the design largely consigned to the history books.
However, an automotive design firm recently built a one-off that pays tribute to one of the most iconic shooting brakes of all time, and it’s now up for auction.

Now listed on Broad Arrow Auctions is the 2026 Daytona Shooting Brake Homage by Niels van Roij Design. This car is a unique homage to the 1972 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Shooting Brake, which was commissioned through Chinetti Motors. In the same spirit, the 2026 Daytona Shooting Brake was built for one client who exclusively went to Niels van Roij Design to make his dream come true.
The design firm used a 2009 Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano as a base and left the standard 612 hp 6.0-liter naturally aspirated V12 alone, working purely on the design. According to the listing, it took over 15,000 hours of design exploration, digital surfacing, CAD engineering, and hand execution to create the final look. Incredibly, all exterior panels except for the doors were newly hand-formed in aluminum, an incredible design and engineering feat.

One of the key designs of the original Daytona also made a return for the homage; these are the electrically operated butterfly side windows achieved by using precision-milled aluminum hinges with drilled detailing. These butterfly doors swing upwards to reveal the luggage compartment. Inside are the cognac leather-trimmed seats, dashboard, door panels, headlining, and luggage bay. The secondary surface of the interior is lined in Carbon Fiber, replacing the original 1972 model’s walnut surface. The car is listed with 27,2217 miles, and with a listed price of over $500,000 up to $753,000.
The 2026 Daytona Shooting Brake isn’t the first and only unique automotive build from Niels van Roij Design. In the past, the company has done a homage to the Ferrari 250 GT SWB “Breadvan”, the Henry II Corniche Shooting Brake, and the Rolls-Royce Silver Specter Shooting Brake.
