Florida has been trying to crack down on street racing and reckless driving for years. Its latest effort was a new so-called Super Speeder law that was meant to make getting caught going way too fast a little more painful. The new fines and jail time for going more than 100 mph or going more than 50 mph over the limit were obviously not enough of a deterrent. The law went into effect at 12:00 am on July 1, and the first driver was snagged just two minutes later.
