While now a long-forgotten sub-segment in the US, there was once a time when the car-based pickup truck was quite popular. The vast majority of these strange car/truck mashups were Chevrolet El Caminos, as the famous nameplate was, by far, the most popular. However, Ford also produced its own version called the Ranchero. Both the Chevy El Camino and Ranchero had roots stretching back to the 1950s and, in the El Camino’s case, as far forward as the late 80s.
