Gateway Jax is spending $50 million to transform the former Ambassador Hotel building into a new hotel concept.
Founded in 2022, Gateway Jax was created in partnership with JWB Real Estate Capital and DLP Capital. Gateway Jax’s $2+ billion development pipeline spans 25 city blocks of mixed-use development in the Urban Core of Downtown Jacksonville and includes over 5,000 multifamily units and 500,000 square feet of commercial and retail space.
The 100-year-old Ambassador Hotel at 310 W. Church St. will be redeveloped as Hotel Merrydelle, a 109-key boutique property. It’s being developed in partnership with Marriott International and Indigo Road Hospitality Group.
The property’s renovation is scheduled for completion by 2027. In May, the Downtown Investment Authority approved providing an additional $10 million in funding to subsidize the development.
