- Google is delaying the rollout of Gemini skills for Workspace users.
- It says the rollout is on hold to ensure “safe and reliable” access for every enterprise user.
- Google hasn’t specified a rollout date, but says it will share an update when it is confirmed.
Last month, Google confirmed its plans to sunset Gemini’s usage-specific Gems and replace them with skills. These skills are easier to set up, access, and invoke in any conversation, and they don’t force you to use them in an isolated environment like Gems did. With its announcement, Google has already started bringing skills to Gmail users, including those on Gemini’s free tiers. For enterprise users, however, Google set a later rollout date, and it has now been pushed back.
Earlier, Google had promised that skills would start rolling out in the Gemini app for all Workspace users on October 13. However, last-minute changes have pushed that rollout date back indefinitely, Google confirmed in a blog post. It noted that the release has been “delayed” to ensure a “safe and reliable” rollout for skills. Google hasn’t added a new date, and it has scrubbed any previous mentions from its Workspace release calendar. It says it will share a new timeline as soon as it is confirmed.
