We don’t think anyone would disagree that General Motors is one of the greatest companies of all time. The automaker rose through mergers and consolidation in the first half of the 20th Century, leap-frogging its main competitor, Ford, and soon becoming the most powerful company in the world. The automaker had the world at its fingertips, but, over time, it proved that no domino is too big to fail, as it squandered its position due to a combination of short-sightedness, ego, and carelessness.
