Google announced a $15 billion investment in a new data center campus in New Florence, Missouri.
The development will be located about one hour from St. Louis on more than 900 acres, next to a site where Amazon previously committed to building a $35 billion data center. “Google’s historic investment in Montgomery County is a testament to Missouri’s growing reputation as a premier destination for innovation and next-generation technology,” said Governor Mike Kehoe, who called the investment the largest single development in state history.
Google will continue to pay for 100% of the power used by the data centers and infrastructure costs directly driven by its operations. The tech giant said it would train 2,300 laborers and 1,500 apprentices to support the project. Google has contracted to deliver more than one gigawatt of capacity through its partnership with St. Louis-based electric utility Ameren, and the company is developing more than 500 megawatts of additional capacity.
Google also announced a $20 million fund to help reduce household energy bills in counties surrounding planned data centers in Kansas City and New Florence.
