All Time High
Fuel prices have skyrocketed since the start of the Iran conflict, and diesel is at an all-time high. According to AAA data, the national average is now $6.51 per gallon, which is a real sting to the wallet when it’s time to head to the pumps.
That also means that demand for diesel vehicles has taken a bit of a hit. To lure in buyers, GM, Ford, and Ram have started offering hefty discounts on their HD pickups just to move them off the lots. Their struggle to shift these trucks might be to your advantage if you do the math right, given fuel prices right now.
Ram
Ford’s Offer
Per CarsDirect, Ford has several discounts for its diesel-powered Super Duty pickups. That’s practically off of them, namely the F-250, F-350, and F-450 models. While it didn’t say which specific configurations are included, it’s likely to apply to anything with a 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8.
It’s up to $6,000 off, which takes a pretty big chunk out of the total price. Remember, it’s $11,495 for the Power Stroke V8, and $13,495 for the high-output version. There’s also a $2,000 bonus for going diesel. These offers are for the 2026 models, but the 2027 has a couple of notable updates.
Ford
GM’s Offers
For GM, the GMC Sierra HD and Chevrolet Silverado HD get special offers, but do note that these are for 2026 models, and not the fully redesigned 2027 versions. For the Sierra HD, it’s for the Denali and it’s $3,500 off the truck. Opting for the 6.6-liter Duramax V8 diesel adds $9,990, so that discount comes in handy.
As for the Silverado HD, Chevrolet has a $4,500 discount on the 2500HD LTZ and Custom trims. Like its plusher counterpart, it’s $3,500 off the diesel model. The Silverado HD also uses the same 6.6-liter Duramax V8, and it’s also another $9,900 on top of the gas-powered models.
Ram’s Offer
But if you think Ford and GM’s offers are a bit too conservative, it may be worth checking what Ram has in store. Stellantis’ truck division is reportedly offering up to 10% discounts on both the 2500 and 3500 models. Depending on the truck’s MSRP, there could be serious savings. We have to feel for Ram, though, having launched the Cummins-powered Power Wagon this year.
Ram claims average savings of $10,019 for 2500 and 3500 trucks. Note that it’s for select models, so ask which ones qualify for this discount. The 6.7-liter Cummins inline-six is an additional $12,995, so if that $10,000 discount applies, it makes the truck about $3,000 more than a standard 2500 or 3500 with a 6.4-liter Hemi. That should also help offset current diesel prices when it’s time to fill up.
RAM
When buying a diesel, it’s best to check how many miles you do and whether the fuel-efficiency benefit will pay off or, at the very least, break even. Then again, if hauling is the nature of your use case, then there’s no other way to go. Either way, these discounts won’t last long. CarsDirect.com noted that these are only through the end of the month, but reckons they’ll carry through longer.
