Honda was on to a winner when it devised its VTEC engine solution, and it’s leaned heavily on this technology for many years. From the nineties, it was able to give simple Civics the ability to scream up to the red line using variable valve timing and lift electronic control. And Honda fed this into its minivans, family sedans, and SUVs. Its J Series V6 motors were fully capable of delivering solid, if not surprising, levels of performance with plenty of refinement along the way.
