Using electromagnetic induction coils in the ground to wirelessly charge battery-electric vehicles has been in the works for many years. Your CarBuzz correspondent was in France in 2017 to watch prototype EVs juicing up while rolling over a very expensive road with induction coils in the pavement, sending energy to a receiver plate on the underside of the vehicle. Qualcomm was pushing this technology it called “Halo” but gave up and sold off the project two years later.
