The Biggest Surprise Might Be Inside

We’ve already seen renderings showing how radically different the next Hyundai Tucson could look on the outside. Now, fresh spy footage from Korea has shifted the focus to the cabin, giving us our first real look at what Hyundai has planned behind the wheel.

The outside is still playing hide-and-seek under heavy camo, but inside, things look nearly showroom-ready. Judging by the photos shown in the video below, Hyundai isn’t just slapping on a new face; it’s going all-in to make the Tucson feel bigger and fancier than ever.

A Cleaner Dashboard, Bigger Screen, Familiar Controls

The dashboard has been decluttered in a big way, ditching the busy look for something much cleaner. Front and center is a massive, landscape-style infotainment screen that sits on top of the dash like it’s showing off.

Despite the larger screen, Hyundai doesn’t seem ready to abandon physical controls altogether – a promise Hyundai dropped when it announced the Pleos Connect. Beneath the display are dedicated buttons and rotary knobs for frequently used functions.

The center console keeps things familiar, with a classic gear shifter, two cupholders, a big armrest, and what looks like not one but two wireless charging pads up front. The light upholstery brightens up the whole space and adds to the upscale vibe.

In the back, it looks like passengers are getting a better deal too. There’s plenty of legroom and rear air vents, so nobody has to fight for comfort.

Nearly as Big as the Old Sorento

Here’s where things get weird: the video showed the new Tucson parked next to a third-gen Kia Sorento, which used to be a proper midsize SUV alongside the Hyundai Santa Fe. The Tucson looks nearly as wide, blurring the lines between compact and midsize.

That doesn’t mean Hyundai is turning the Tucson into a full-on midsize, but it does show just how much ‘compact’ SUVs have bulked up lately. If you want more room without going up a size, Hyundai looks set to deliver.

The fifth-gen Tucson should break cover globally toward the end of the year. Until then, these spy shots are our best clue that Hyundai’s top-seller is about to get its biggest makeover yet, even in the cabin, where owners will spend most of their time.
